Humanistic Psychology as a "third force" addressed those psychological abilities that young children or animals cannot do, what is unique to humans---philosophize, create art in various modalities, work out problems symbolically, and in short, more consciously "sublimate," convert primitive feelings into more sublime and pro-social forms.
